MEET THE TEAM

Alex Wix

Founding Director & Country Specialist

Travel is in my blood. My parents lived and met in Asia and first introduced me to the Far East as a teenager and my love of the Orient has grown exponentially year on year. I adore the vibrancy of the colours, sights, smells and cuisine not to mention the people.

After leaving school I took every opportunity to travel, starting with half a year exploring East Africa before taking a degree in Business Management.

After another 6 months discovering South America I joined cazenove+loyd for 10 years, ultimately heading up their Asia+The Middle East team for 5 years, before launching Wix Squared.

Whether on business or for the sheer joy of it, I have visited some 40 countries, developing invaluable first-hand knowledge and personal contacts in each destination. Condé Nast Traveler and Robb Report have repeatedly named me as one of their top travel specialists, with a focus on Morocco from where I am currently based.

SRI LANKAHaving already visited this incredible island a couple of times, I can't wait to return to introduce my children to Sri Lanka. I would also love to discover the new Pekoe Trail, as well as some of the family villas and child friendly hotels with them.
ICELANDI stayed in the best hotels in the country from which to explore lava tunnels, ice caves, glaciers, waterfalls and even witnessed the Northern Lights. I enjoyed private access to the blue lagoon and increased our knowledge of the developing foodie scene.
CON DAO, VIETNAMI particuarly enjoyed exploring Con Dao's long sweeping coastline, remote location and witnessing Dugong underwater. The gorgeous Six Senses Con Dao hotel throws into sharp contrast the complexities that this island’s political prison once was.
MARRAKECH, MOROCCOHaving been based in Marrakech for over 10 years, I personally know the best guides, the best restaurants, how to navigate away from the crowds and I love meeting our guests face to face when they are in town.
PRIVATE SAMPAN, LAOS A private, spruced up sampan meandering from northern Thailand in to Luang Prabang, captured my heart. It forced me to swtich off from modern technology and to appreciate the slow pace of life and beautiful scenery on the banks of the Mekong.
THE RANAKPUR EXPRESS, INDIAThe journey from Delhi to Kathgodam to see the ‘real India’ whizzing by, took me outside my comfort zone but the excitement surrounding the trip towards an undiscovered part of the country, in the foothills of the Himalayas ended up being my most memorable trip to India yet.

James Wix

Director & Events Manager

I  have lived “Hospitality” since I was a toddler, since my father was an hotelier. I took my degree in International Hospitality Management, during which I had a year with the Four Seasons. I then spent several years with the Admirable Crichton where I learnt to achieve the unachievable under the wing of the incomparable Johnny Roxburgh.

I have designed and executed events all over the world, gaining invaluable experience that will ensure that your party exceeds your expectations and dreams, faultlessly and on budget.

With exciting far flung places becoming more accessible, there are so many stunning locations that we can access to ensure that you and your guests have the perfect unique celebration, whatever the occasion.

MOROCCOA surprise birthday party in the depth of the Agafay desert. Complete with all-night live entertainment, dinner for 200 people and surprise guest appearances.
MALDIVESAnywhere in the Maldives, with white sand, turquoise waters, incredible service and fresh seafood, you can’t beat it. My favourite islands to date include Soneva Fushi and Gili Lankanfushi.
KYOTO, JAPAN For its beautiful architecture, traditional tea ceremonies and hidden local restaurants in the Geisha district. It is particularly stunning during the Autumn months when the gardens come into their own.
RAVEN, UKI organised a 120 person wedding, aboard a heritage steamer, gliding through the beautiful scenery surrounding Lake Ullswater, in Cumbria’s Lake District. Detail was given to the entertainment, canapes, decoration and of course a wet-weather plan b was in place.
LE FARNATCHI, MOROCCOAs owner of Le Farnatchi in the heart of the Marrakech medina, I might be a little biased! A close second would be the Alila Jabal Akhdar in the Al Hajar Mountains of Oman for its stunning views and natural design.
EVENTSA banquet in Buckingham Palace, a dinner party in a private house, a ball for a thousand guests in a tent and a discreet three day break for a FTSE 100 board. Most had strict budgets, some had no budget at all. What always unites them is the need to exceed the client’s expectations at every level.

Sheena Pring

Country Specialist

My best ever gift, was a round-the-world-ticket given me by my parents for my 21st birthday. I travelled solo for fear of having to compromise my itinerary for 3 years, working as I went.

The majority of this time was spent exploring the bush and sailing, in Australasia and I embrace the affinity I have in both New Zealand and Australia, not just because I have a heavy deposit of family there but also, because I have a strong sense of admiration of the indigenous identities who willingly share their traditions, culture and lands.

Returning to the UK, I have relished the opportunity to engage with Wix Squared and spread my wings again in what is a fascinating and ever changing industry.

My expertise lies specifically in North Africa, the Middle East and Australasia and I believe that I have a grounded take on what it takes to make an ordinary holiday, extraordinary. The devil is in the detail as they say, and irrespective of what our client’s budget, time is never better spent on reconnaissance, listening to their ideas, and curating an itinerary to fit like a glove.

UAEMid-winter in the UK is always a challenge, particularly when living in Cumbria and with next to no summer this year, I am so excited to steal away to the UAE for a bit of much needed R&R. With a 7 hour flight from the UK, Dubai opens up a plethora of opportunity wherever your interests lie; be they hunting for sunshine, golf, desert adventures, gourmet food, shopping, or even the F1.
VIETNAMVietnam's population is a diverse mix of Vietnamese, Thai, Laotian, Cambodian and Chinese people that integrate with one another effortlessly. The multitudes of cuisine are exquisite, the scenery, stunning; but it is the people who truly leave their impression. Their appeal is welcoming, inclusive and self-effacing, and with a boundless curiosity and mischievous humour one cannot help but be anything other than beguiled.
TASMANIATasmania's natural beauty needs no telling other than it really does punch well above its weight. I love it for it’s great outdoor activities, scenery and wonderful hotels with excellent food. Sophisticated Hobart offers a hub of great eateries or further afield around the Freycinet Peninsula is where I enjoyed unforgetable encounters with wombats, echinadas, pademelons and wallabies.
SYDNEYI absolutely love this city which is home to such iconic monuments as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, yet this harbour city is ever changing. At every turn, new rooftop clubs, theatre events, and designer boutiques appear, and the urban buzz is wonderfully matched by days spent lounging by the beach.
EGYPTWhilst we generally think of Pharaohs, Mummies and Pyramids when we think Egypt, it is not a widely known fact that Egypt has diving to rival the Barrier Reef including wrecks, walls, drifts, pinnacles, shore dives, great snorkelling, kite surfing and some exceptional beaches. I have dived in both countries and am so thrilled to have found this gem.
NEW ZEALANDNothing beats a New Zealand sunrise whether you are in the mountains, the fjords or on the coast and to find the spot where no one else is, is something divine. I spent 3 days hiking the Routeburn Track and staying at Routeburn Falls and Lake Mackenzie Huts. If you want to see that sunrise remember the ‘early bird gets the worm’!
